4. Why does Teiresias avoid Oedipus' question about who killed King Lauis?
Teiresias avoids Oedipus' question about who killed King Lauis because oedipus is the one who killed king Lauis. Teiresias was trying to avoid the question knowing that Oedipus was the one who killed the former king. Since Oedipus is demanding Teiresias to say who killed the former king Teiresias ends up saying he was the murderer. 5. What does Oedipus now think about Creon and why? Oedipus believes the Creon is a liar and killed the former king. Oedipus is not believing anything Creon is telling him because Oedipus thinks he killed the former king for power and for the fact that Creon betrayed Oedipus. 6. How does Oedipus continue to show hubris in his speech from lines 459-484? Oedipus continues to show hubris in his speech from lines 459 - 484 by saying that Oedipus London would be nothing like it is today without his help. Thebes needed him to save them from there dooms and troubles. But everything he has done for Thebes his kingdom that he wants to do right but unleashed a plague.

1. What are your first impressions of Oedipus as a person and ruler?
My first impression of Oedipus is that he thinks very highly of himself. As well as he is a smart man and noble man. He expresses great hubris because he is smart but sometimes that excessive pride can go bad for him. I also thought that he was a caring king. Oedipus cares about Thebes because he is willing to help it out of whatever problems Thebes is facings. 2. Oedipus’s kingdom, Thebes, is beset (invaded) by the plague and agricultural decline—“crises.” What does this foreshadow for the characters during the remainder of the play? Explain. Thebes plague is foreshadowing that there could be a great tragedy bestowing on Oedipus. The plague can be foreshadowing a lot of things for the characters during the play but I think that it's showing that great tragedy is coming for Oedipus. 3. What did Oedipus hope to gain by sending his wife’s brother, Creon, to pray to the oracle at Delphi? What did he learn? Explain whether or not this knowledge could be helpful. Oedipus hope of sending is brother Creon to pray to the oracle at Delphi was to gain knowledge of how to stop this plague from taking over his kingdom. He learned that the plague is cases by the one who killed the former king and they have to kill him because he shed blood. This knowledge is useful but it's not at this moment because Oedipus doesnt know that it's him who has done this to his kingdoms. Answer 1: Locke means by the "New" negro by a vibrant younger generation. The difference from the "old" negro is they are more morally debatable and historically controversial.
Answer 2: Themes 2a. )In the essay Locke wrote he explored the theme of strength. Strength can be shown by taking power over a situation and it can be shown when he stated "by shedding… emancipated" ( Locke 2). It took an outstanding amount of strength to feel spiritual emancipation. Emancipated means liberated from legal, social, or political restrictions. At this time it was difficult to feel and be liberated and to feel spiritual liberated took a power/strength. 2b.) In the essay Locke wrote he explored the theme of rebirth. Rebirth was shown as a way to discover yourself but to also show opportunities. I'm the essay Locke stated @for this [New negro] must… old sentimental interest"( Locke 2). The "New" negro knows the self- discovery he had to do for himself to not make 'discrimination an exentuation' for his talent. 2c.) In the essay Locke wrote he explored the theme of creativity. Creativity was shown by music, art and artifacts. In the essay it stated "recall… there was folk music"(Locke 2). This was the start of music to break away and indulge yourself in the music that is being created. 2d.) in the essay Locke wrote he explores the theme of unity. Unity would mean in this context by brotherhood or a fraternity. In the essay it shown that "with this… conditions from without"(Locke 2). If the 'negro' population came together there is no way an outside force can defy there spiritual or physical beliefs. 2e.) In the essay Locke wrote he expresses the theme of a social challenge. A social challenge is a struggle you face with society and it can be shown in the essay when it states the "the negro has been more of a formula than a human being… a social burden" (Locke 1). Society has this social hierarchy where they put colored people in the bottom pile of it. It makes it seem as if the color u we're born as makes the determination whether or not ur seen as a human being to societies eyes. 3.) Locke influenced the artist of the New Negro Movement by helping them realize to use there cultural as a canvas for there arts and writing. He also influences the diversity of art meaning the style of art. 4.)Extenuate- make (guilt or an offense) seem more forgivable Fervent- having/displaying a passionate intensity Endowments- the act of leaving a will with an income for an individual My poem is “The Mothering Blackness” by Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri and died May 28, 2014. She was raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. Maya Angelou is a dancer, singer activist for the civil rights, and songwriter. Maya Angelou had lived through the era where segregation was still heavily there in the south. The poem I will read talks about a black woman just coming back from work and she is trying to get home walking in the dark. The poem connects with her because she must have experienced this at after work walking home trying to get there as fast as you could because it wasn't safe. The hate the she experiences every day when she steps out of her house, it’s the same struggle that Maya experienced as a black woman when she stepped out of her home. The poem explains how she came home running from her hard job. She feels safer with people who love her and care for her then the world that hates her because of her skin tone. I plan to read my poem with emphasizes and take pauses. I will also have different tones while I read.
The plan I have for my tone is for the first part of my poem with a fearful, scared and hash tone. The second part I will read it calm and happy since, it talks about how happy she is to come home. The last part I will read it with satisfaction and bravery because the last part explains that she doesn't blame herself for the life she lives. She is proud of her brown gorgeous skin she is blessed with. I'm going for a four so I will memorize the entire poem. The way I will achieve a four is I will use hand gestures for the parts that have a hard hit on me, for example the parts I will emphasize. I will also use facial expression to express and connect it with the poem and my tone. My eye contact will also help me with a four I will look at everyone in the class so I know i'm keeping my eye contact. I'm gonna try not to stare at the wall or at the ceiling. Here is a vocabulary I don't understand in my poem: Befrost- fancier word for frosting Sentence- As it kept snowing the befrost was getting all in her hair. "BIOGRAPHY." Caged Bird Legacy. The article's main focus was to show that Cognitive behavioral therapy is effective for adults with depression and how it can help. In addition it shows the things that are helpful with Cognitive behavioral therapy for depression but it also shows how it's not effective in a way. The way the article explains how it is effective is that the article explained that it is a highly effective way of treating adults with depression. This source is very effective because it came from a database that stored is from askri.org. A database is a private company user that is very reliable to use. Another reason why it's effective is because the article is from the journal of mental health. This shows how the reliable article is because it has many researchers who contributed to the project. There is also a page of citation the researchers used which shows the credibility. This source has no bias because if it did then it wouldn't be credible since it's a research project about CBT on adults with depression. Also it has 2 point of views explaining what's good and bad about CBT on adults with depression. It answers my question because it's showing me how patients with depression are improving by going to cognitive behavioral therapy. Kassel, Karen Schroeder, and MIchael Woods. "An Augmented Cognitive Behavioural Therapy For Treating Post-Stroke Depression: Description Of A Treatment Protocol." Clinical Rehabilitation 29.9 (2015): 833-843. Academic Search Elite. Web. 30 Nov. 2016. This article I chose was An augmented Cognitive Behavioral therapy for treating post stroke depression. The articles main purpose was to inform how there could be a new was of helping patients with post stroke depression with cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition this article talks about how Cognitive Behavioral therapy is better than the usual way to treat post stroke depression and it went step by the methods they went through. Further more it talked about the effects and the after effects of using Cognitive Behavioral therapy. The study showed that Cognitive Behavioral therapy is effective to treat post stroke depression. This source is very reliable because it's from the clinical rehabilitation and it's from the database Askri.org. These two examples show how reliable this source is because askri.org is a database and only shows specific information that had been looked over. This source does not have bias because at the end it explains how even though it was effective there is still some hiccups in having Cognitive Behavioral therapy treating post stroke depression. This source does answer my question because it answers my question about how Cognitive Behavioral therapy affects the wellbeing of patients. In addition it shows how's effective Cognitive Behavioral therapy can be towards depression. Fathi, Atefeh, Walter Renner, and Barbara Juen. Web. 30 Nov. 2016. In the article it explains how CBT is effective but it's not when it comes to checking in on the patients after the study. This sources tells me a lot about how Cognitive Behavioral therapy is effective for mild/moderate depression. It offers only one research study but it is an independent research. This source is credible because it's from the Bulletin Of The Menninger Clinc. This source is very reliable because it is from askri.org and it's from doctors who know what they are doing when they study this. "Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy For Subthreshold Depression: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis." BMC Psychiatry 16.(2016): 1-11. Academic Search Elite. Web. 29 Nov. 2016.
The article that I chose was Internet Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Sub threshold Depression: A systematic Review and Meta-Analysis by BCM psychiatry. In this article the main argument was to see if internet based CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) can affect depression. The topic that were mentioned in the article were what is CBT and depression but also the methods they did on this experimental procedure. Another topic was the results and after results but also conclusion. Depression is a world wide health problem and i know some people don't believe cognitive behavioral therapy works. The results in this study was that it was effective to a degree. This source is very reliable because i found it on a database website (askri.org) but also its from a research article called BMC psychiatry. If this organization posted the wrong information they would considerably lose there jobs as psychologist. There is no bias information in this because its a research article to show whether internet based CBT actually is helpful for people with depression. there is little to none bias in this artile and you can tell by the follow up section on there patients. This source does answer my question because it helps me learn that CBT can help the mindset of patients with depression. |
