Both humor and traditional sources addressed the Micheal Brown issue. What happened to Michael Brown that uproar the whole world was that he was stole some cigarettes. Michael Brown was stopped by the police when he put his hands up the police shot him. The Jon Stewart sources talks in a more broader sense than the CNN source. Jon Stewart talks in a way of a race off in the world, it was as if the Micheal Brown Issue was something to get it started talking about it. In one part he started to say "If only Michael Brown instead of holding his hands over his head had reached down to his waist and lifted up his shirt to show the gun he did not actually have well, this whole tragedy could of been avoided". He used this example because he was appalled by the fact that if a person of color or African american would have done this then they would have been dead. It showed the ignorance of people. While in the CNN source they talk about a more in depth of Michael Brown. CNN talked more on a serious note, CNN talked with Michael Brown's parents, what had happened to him and many other things. Both the CNN and the Jon Steward Coverage made me feel two different feelings. For the CNN coverage I felt despondent for the family of Micheal Brown while, the Jon Stewart coverage lightened the mood. The Jon Steward coverage used sarcasm and exaggeration. He exaggerated his reactions to what people were saying. He also used sarcasm when someone had said something so ridiculous for example when someone said that they left there vacation to come here his reaction was" Of course you are! An unarmed black teenager gunned down in the street by police under suspicious circumstances! Who wouldn't cut their vacation short to register their fury? You'd have to be a monster or in case enjoying a particularly nice vacation". This shows how Jon used sarcasm and exaggeration. The tone in his voice was evident of sarcasm. Superiority theory apples to the Jon Stewart coverage because Jon is making fun of what people are saying about the Michael Brown issue and contradicting what they are saying. Both text have a different way of getting the issue a crossed but for me I would have to say the CNN is much more effective to know the whole issue. The CNN is much more effective with telling the whole story, being specific on what happened and it doesn't stray away from being on topic. Vocabulary: Demonstrators- A person who takes part in a public protest meeting or match Like you said, the goal is chaos, which can then be blamed on the demonstrators. Transparency- The condition of being transparent In shallow seas the transparency is always reduced in rough weather.

Part 1: Thinking big What are the topics addressed by this source? The topics that are addressed in this video reflect on comparing how you have to do certain thing with sexuality but not your race. She mostly talks in her video her race which is African American and her sexuality which is a lesbian/gay. She doesn't really talk mush of other any topic than what I listed. How does this source use humor to address those topics? Wanda Sykes uses humor in various of ways. In her tone of voice how she used the stage, her expressions, the examples she gave for addressing her topic. In her video she stated ¨ Any thing but black Jesus!¨ this quote she is pretending to be her mother reacting to her confessing she is black. I think this shows just how she uses humor because in the video she is saying this quote in a different speech she is using expressions. Wanda is yelling, praying to the lord not to black and it kinda shows how people react to saying there gay in a exaggerated way. Which part did you find most humorous and why? The part in this video i found the most funniest is when she started to say "give her cancer lord give her cancer lord anything but black lord" when she said this it kinda dawned on me just how people/parents react to coming out as gay. It was funny because caner is such a terrible thing to have and Wanda ( playing her mother) would rather have cancer than being black. The way she was also saying this was hysterical. I mostly found the whole video funny. From when she was explain how you don't have to come out as black till the very end of the video. Part 2: Video discussion What my opinions on the video were: My opinions on the video was that everything that Wanda Sykes had said was true. Even though it was supposed to be comedic I had found it funny and very informational. I had found it as a double standard that you have to come out to your friends family or peers about your sexuality but in other situations its different. Another thought/opinion I had whole watching this was is that how people would react to someone saying they were gay. What my peers thought: Most of my peers thought that this was very funny. One of my peer was even cracking up while watching the video. Laughing about almost everything Wanda Sykes had said/talked about. Another one of my peers had thought that what she was saying about what you have to do with being gay you don't have to do with being black was true. Most of my peers thought that what she was saying was true. Part 3: She uses generalized words finding a vocab was hard |
